The Pierre/Fort Pierre Community Foundation has been challenged by a local philanthropist to raise $50,000 by the end of 2021.
President Becky Burke says the Foundation was established just over 20 years ago with generous grants from several businesses and families. She says in the life of the foundation, there has not been a formal fundraising campaign. If this endeavor is successful, the philanthropist will gift the endowment $25,000 and the South Dakota Community Foundation will inject another $12,500 into the account.
Burke says to date, the Board has raised $15,000 towards the $50,000 goal. She says the matching funds will allow the Foundation to broaden its ability to boost local organizations and projects.
Burke says the current balance stands at about $400,000, and the Foundation typically makes about $15,000-$20,000 in grants annually. She says this year, the Pierre/Fort Pierre Area Community Foundation distributed $18,000 in grants to 14 community organizations.

Please include a memo noting the donation is for the Pierre/Fort Pierre Community Foundation match challenge.
Gifts are tax deductible, will be used to match the challenge grants and go on to provide assistance to so many projects across the communities. The Board will be reaching out to members of the community in the coming weeks via letter, followed up by a phone call, to graciously ask for donations.
The local foundation has granted over $400,000 to nonprofit organizations and programs in the area since 1998. The fund is a permanent endowment with the SDCF and is managed by a local board of directors.
