SIOUX FALLS – South Dakota State is the clear top choice in the Summit League men’s basketball preseason poll.
The Jackrabbits went 16-7 and 9-3 in the conference to win their fifth straight conference title and seventh in the last eight seasons in 2020-21. Two SDSU players, Baylor Scheierman and Doug Wilson, were named to the preseason all-conference first team. Noah Friedel is on the second team.
South Dakota was chosen fourth in the poll. Coyote forwards Xavier Fuller and Tasos Kamteros were named to the second team.
The preseason Summit League Player of the Year is Max Abmas of Oral Roberts, last year’s men’s Division I scoring leader at 24.5 points per game. Abmas helped Oral Roberts upset North Dakota State and SDSU to win the conference tournament and to wins over Ohio State and Florida in the NCAA Tournament.
