SIOUX FALLS – For the third straight season, South Dakota women’s basketball is the preseason choice to win the Summit League title.
South Dakota, coming off a 19-6 season and the conference tournament championship victory last year, just edged South Dakota State in the preseason poll. USD had 20 first-place votes. The Jackrabbits are second and had 18 first-place votes. SDSU, the regular season league champion, was 21-4 in 2020-21.
SDSU’s Myah Selland was named the preseason Summit League Player of the Year. Selland was last year’s Player of the Year, averaging 19.2 points per game. She missed the postseason with a knee injury. Joining Selland on the preseason all-conference team are her teammates Tylee Irwin and Payton Burckhard, South Dakota’s Chloe Lamb (the Sully Buttes alum) & Hannah Sjerven and Naomie Alnatas of Kansas City.
