PRESHO – The Lyman Raiders knew stopping talented Timber Lake running back Hank Kraft would be important in their bid to reach the 9AA semifinals. But Kraft first rushed big, then made the biggest reception of the year.
Kraft caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Kedrick Martin with five seconds remaining Thursday to give Timber Lake a 24-18 quarterfinal win over Lyman.
Kraft rushed for three touchdowns in the first half as the Panthers took an 18-0 halftime lead. Then, Lyman star running back Colton Collins rushed for two third-quarter touchdowns to bring the Raiders to within 18-12.
Late in the fourth quarter, Teagan Gourneau hit Isaac Thomas for a touchdown pass to tie the game at 18-18, but Lyman (8-2) then missed the two-point conversion.
Kraft rushed for 132 yards on 25 carries. Collins rushed for 126 yards on 19 carries.
Timber Lake (9-1) will host Platte-Geddes in a semifinal game on Friday, November 5.
