PIERRE – Melissa (Luers) Hansen, Travis Lindekugel and Kirk Van Roekel are this year’s individual inductees into the Pierre Athletic Hall of Fame. Also inducted will be the Governors’ 1945 and 1947 track and field teams and the 1982 girls and boys basketball teams. Pierre’s 1982 girls team captured the state championship.
Hansen was an all-state basketball player in her senior year and was the Governors’ MVP that season. She twice was a first team all-ESD selection. Hansen first went to Arizona State before transferring to South Dakota State, where she played during the 2001-02 season. Hansen also was a two-time all-ESD volleyball player and participated in track and field.
Lindekugel was an all-state football player in his senior season of 1996. He was a two-time all-ESD player and was voted as the Governors’ Most Valuable Lineman in 1995 and ‘96. Lindekugel also wrestled, and in his junior year, earned the Dale Westburg Memorial Trophy for most pins in the state tournament. He also was a track athlete.
Van Roekel was an 11AA all-state defensive lineman for Pierre in 1992 and ‘93, while also playing fullback.
Hansen, Lindekugel and Van Roekel will be inducted at halftime of the Governor boys’ basketball game against Spearfish on Saturday, December 18 at the Riggs High Gym.
The ‘45 & ‘47 track teams and the 1982 basketball teams will be inducted on Friday, January 21 at halftime of the Governor boys’ game with Brandon Valley.
Also inducted as Contributors will be Pierre’s new car dealers: Beck Motors, Gateway Ford-Lincoln-Toyota and Wegner Auto.
