SIOUX FALLS – For the fifth time in six seasons, a South Dakota State Jackrabbit has earned the top individual honor in Summit League Men’s Basketball.
Baylor Scheierman was named Thursday as the Summit League Player of the Year. In league play, Scheierman averaged 18.2 points per game, third in conference play. He also led the Summit League in rebounds at 8.2 per game and assists with 4.6, the only Division I player to lead his conference in both categories.
Scheierman and Douglas Wilson were named to the all-Summit League first team. Wilson was fifth in the conference in scoring at 17.4 points a game.
Wilson was also named to the All-Defensive team.
Luke Appel was named as the league’s Sixth Man of the Year. In just over 19 minutes a game, Appel averaged 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 63 percent. He scored 41 points, the best by any player in a single game in the conference this season, in the Jacks’ February 26 win at Oral Roberts.
Zeke Mayo earned a spot on the All-Newcomer team. Mayo averaged 10.6 points per game.
Eric Henderson was named as the league’s Coach of the Year. Henderson, who won the award for the second time in three seasons, guided SDSU to an 18-0 Summit League record, the first time that a men’s team has gone through the conference schedule unbeaten.

Jackrabbit women’s Head Coach Aaron Johnston was named as the Summit League Coach of the Year for the second straight season. SDSU tied South Dakota for the league title with a 17-1 conference record. This year’s Jackrabbit team is the 18th 20-win team guided by Johnston in his 22 seasons and 10th in a row.
Myah Selland was named All-Summit League first team for the third time. Selland averages 14.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
Freshman Paige Meyer was named to the second team. Meyer is averaging just under 11 points per game and shooting just under 62 percent from the field.
Jackrabbits Tylee Irwin and Tori Nelson were named honorable mention. Irwin was also named to the All-Defensive team.
