Longtime Sully Buttes football and girls basketball head coach Mark Senftner is set to be inducted into the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Hall of Shrine.
Senftner has been the Chargers’ head football coach for 14 seasons, leading them to state championship games in 2015, 2017 and 2018 and a record of 101-42.
Also, Senftner has been Sully Buttes’ girls basketball head coach for 17 seasons, winning state championships in 2007, 2008, 2016 and 2017 and compiling a record of 327-78. He also led Sully Buttes to runner-up finishes in 2012 and 2015 and to 11 state tournament appearances.
Before coaching at Sully Buttes, Senftner led Timber Lake to three state tournament appearances.
Senftner is a former president of the South Dakota High School Basketball Coaches Association and was named the SDHSCA Girls Basketball Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2017. Also in 2017, he was named as a finalist for the National Federation of High School Girls Basketball National Coach of the Year.
Other inductees include former Sisseton head coach Cal Schubert, former Rapid City Stevens Athletic Director Duane Whalen and longtime official Jim “Jocko” Johnston.
