BROOKINGS – Four years after winning a fifth straight championship, St. Thomas More is back on top of girls Class A basketball.
More had an 18-0 run over 8:05 in the first half after spotting Hamlin the first two points, and the Cavaliers routed the Chargers 52-30 Saturday in the championship game of the SDHSAA Class A Girls State Tournament at Frost Arena.
Reese Ross had eight of the points in that run and was again dominant inside for the Cavaliers (22-3), scoring 25 points with 13 rebounds. Jada Mollman scored 11.
Hamlin (23-3), who lost in the championship game for the second straight season, was led by 11 points from Brooklyn Brandriet.
St. Thomas More has now won seven championships, with a title in 2012 in addition to the five straight from 2014-18.

3rd Place – West Central 62, Wagner 54
West Central (23-3) scored 41 second-half points and 22 in the fourth quarter after trailing 24-21 at halftime. Addy Wagner hit three three-pointers and scored 20 for the Trojans. Rylee Haldeman had 16 points. Tabor Teel scored 11 with 11 rebounds.
Macy Koupal had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Wagner (23-3). Emma Yost scored 13 with 14 rebounds.
5th Place – Red Cloud 62, Dakota Valley 43
Red Cloud (22-3) shot 58 percent in the first half from the field and 48 percent for the game. Stevi Fallis led the Crusaders with 24 points and hit three three-pointers.
Dakota Valley (20-6), who shot just 27 percent from the field, had 20 points and 12 rebounds from Rylee Rosenquist.
7th Place – Sioux Falls Christian 62, Lakota Tech 58
Down four points in the fourth quarter, Sioux Falls Christian (21-5) rallied for the win. Kylah vanDonkersgoed led the Chargers with 22 points. Ellie Lems notched 15.
Lakota Tech (20-4), who made the tournament for the first time in the second season of the program, had 16 points from Shayla Bravo.
