PIERRE – Hunter Brown hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning Saturday as the Pierre Trappers edged the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs 3-2 at Hyde Stadium to prevent the Sabre Dogs from sweeping the Expedition League Championship Series. Souris Valley now leads the best-of-five series two games to one.
Brown’s hit scored Will Hoch, who led off the inning with a single. The win broke a 20-game losing streak by the Trappers to Souris Valley, dating back to 2020.
After never leading in the first two games of the series, the Trappers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a Cy Probst RBI infield hit and a passed ball. Souris Valley scored in the bottom of the third on a double play ball and in the fourth on an RBI single by Seth Delgado.
Kaleb Hay won on the mound for the Trappers, allowing two unearned runs and six hits in eight innings. Brady Glen earned the save, inducing Hunter Delanoy to foul out to end the game with the tying and winning runs on base.
Game 4 will be played on Sunday at Hyde Stadium. Coverage will begin at 5:20 PM on River 92.7 and at the River 92.7 page at the DRG News app & drgnews.com.
