MITCHELL – Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels won their first Class A Amateur Baseball championship by winning the title game Sunday at Cadwell Park. Dell Rapids won to repeat as Class B champion.
CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP: Sioux Falls Squirrels 4, Brookings 3
Sioux Falls Squirrels rallied from 3-0 down to win their first title. Lucas Wilber hit a go-ahead single to cap a three-run seventh-inning rally. Zach Dibble had tied the game with a two-run double.
Brookings scored all their runs with two out in the second inning. Noel Burgos drove in a run with a double and Tyler Kreutner then hit a two-run single.
The Squirrels scored their first run in the sixth with a Trevor Hurley sacrifice fly.
CLASS B CHAMPIONSHIP: Dell Rapids 5, Garretson 2
Dell Rapids trailed 2-0 before rallying to win the Mudcats’ second straight championship and third in team history.
Dalton Lehner blooped a sixth-inning single to cut Garretson’s lead to 2-1 before Weston Hansen singled in two. Hansen later scored in the same inning just before a teammate was tagged out in a rundown to end the inning.
The Blue Jays had scored their two runs on a fifth-inning single by Robin Chute.
