OCTOBER 2021:
More details have been released in a Wessington Springs homicide that left a woman dead.
90-year-old Lorraine Redmann was shot and killed in her home early Sunday morning (Oct. 24, 2021).
According to court documents, the suspect, Mitch Caffee of Wessington Springs, had gone to Redmann’s home to speak with Caffee’s wife Katie Caffee, who is Redmann’s granddaughter. Mitch Caffee wanted to talk with Katie about his recent arrest for violating a no contact order, so he forced his way into the home through a locked door, and pushed his wife onto the couch. That’s when Redmann came out of her bedroom and was shot by Mitch Caffee, who was armed with a pistol. Mitch Caffee then held his wife hostage in the home for several hours before surrendering.
He’s facing 17 criminal counts including murder, kidnapping and burglary and is being held in jail without bond.
