EAGAN, MN – Backup quarterbacks Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond were let go by the Minnesota Vikings Tuesday as the team set its 53-man roster. Also, the Vikings waived defensive lineman Armon Watts.
Mannion was released and Mond was waived, leaving recently-acquired Nick Mullens as the backup to Kirk Cousins. Reportedly, Mond could rejoin the Vikings later this week to be on the practice squad.
Watts started nine games last season and had career highs of 40 tackles, five sacks and 10 quarterback hits. Watts spent three seasons with Minnesota after being a sixth-round pick out of Arkansas.
The Vikings also acquired defensive lineman Ross Blacklock from the Texans with a seventh-round draft choice in 2023 for a sixth-round draft pick next year. Blacklock had two sacks for Houston in 2021.
Minnesota also sent backup offensive lineman Jesse Davis to Pittsburgh for a conditional seventh-round 2025 draft pick.
