A section of US Highway 14 was closed for over two hours yesterday (Nov. 29, 2022) evening (6:27pm) after a pickup hit a semi parked along the side of the road two miles east of Highmore.
Preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 2004 Kenworth T800 semi-truck and trailer having mechanical problems was parked on the side of the road with hazard lights on. The driver of a westbound 2021 Chevrolet Sierra pickup, 36 year old Mandoza Lowery of Washington, DC, did not move over– as is required by state law— and rear ended the semi trailer.
Mandoza, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Pierre. A traffic violation charge is pending.
The 74 year old male driver of the semi was not injured.
The section of US Highway 14 where the accident occurred was closed for more than two hours. Traffic was rerouted around the scene.
