Two men have been arrested in connection with burglaries yesterday (Dec. 11, 2022) afternoon in Pierre.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says 24 year old Lane Bendert of Pierre and 20 year old Jayden Knight of Eagle Butte were arrested for burglarizing three separate residential outbuildings in Pierre.
Captain Bryan Walz says between 1-4pm, officers were called to two different residences in the 200 block of South Buchanan and another in the 300 block of South Taylor for burglaries. He says a witness described seeing two males exit a garage and run through the alley to an awaiting vehicle. The men had entered the garage and stolen several items. A description of the men and the car was provided to responding officers.
Walz says officers located the car and its occupants, Bendert and Knight, in
a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 700 block of East Wells. Both men were taken into custody and property stolen during the burglaries was recovered from the car they were occupying at the time of their arrest.
Bendert and Knight are currently being held at the Hughes County Jail. Each man is charged with:
- Burglary 3rd Degree Enter or Remain in Unoccupied
- Burglary 3rd Degree Enter or Remain in Unoccupied
- Intentional Damage to Property $1,000 – $2,500
- Petty Theft All Others Less Than $400
