What’s the next big thing state legislators will tackle during this legislative session? It will likely be eminent domain regarding proposed carbon dioxide pipelines.
Republican House Majority Leader Will Mortenson from Pierre expects informative and emotional testimony when the legislature begins consideration of bills that restrict the private use of condemnation for rights of way. He says the issue puts legislators in a bind.
Eight bills are currently pending related to eminent domain. The first hearing on the bills will be Monday (Feb. 6, 2023) in the House State Affairs Committee, which Mortenson chairs.
