A remodeling project on the emergency room and main entrance of Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre will begin this morning (7:30am May 8, 2023). These doors are also marked as “Entrance A.”
The project requires the main hospital entrance to be blocked off all week. Until the renovation is complete, all patients and visitors to the hospital– including for emergency visits– will need to enter through “Entrance B,” the Helmsley Center main doors.
The revolving door at the hospital will be replaced with two walk-in doors separated by a glass wall. Crews will also install new tile in the atrium.
A large banner will indicate the temporary entrance for the hospital and emergency department. Staff will be available at the Helmsley Center entrance 24/7 throughout the duration of the project to help patients and visitors find where they need to go.
Avera St. Mary’s reminds the community that if a life, limb or organ is at risk, always go to the ER. If your medical problem is an everyday illness or injury that you might see a primary care doctor for if they were available, go to urgent care at Avera Medical Group.
