The US Department of Agriculture has awarded Oahe Electric Cooperative an infrastructure loan of more than $11.8 million ($11,807,000).
This Rural Development investment will be used to connect 298 consumers and build and improve 76 miles of line. The loan includes over $1.4 million ($1,404,936) for smart grid technologies.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says USDA invests in rural America because they know strong communities are rooted in their people. He says powering people with modern infrastructure creates good-paying jobs and supports opportunities for people to build brighter futures in rural areas.
Oahe Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Blunt, serves an average of 3,248 members over 1,228 miles in all or portions of Hughes, Hyde, Potter and Sully counties in South Dakota.
