South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks crews have been stocking walleye in Lake Oahe this year (2023).
Fisheries Biologist Dylan Gravenhof says they add walleye to bodies of water all around the state.
Gravenhof says they typically do the stocking in the May-June time frame.
Gravenhof says they divide Lake Oahe into two zones– upper and lower.
He says GFP uses two sizes of walleye when stocking a body of water.
Gravenhof says most of the stocking is done by putting the walleye in at boat ramps because it’s more efficient and equally as successful as loading the fish onto boats and releasing them.
