DECEMBER 2023:
A 30 year old woman from Pierre charged with abusing a child Labor Day weekend has reached a plea deal.
Kelsey Howe plead “no contest” to Domestic Abuse Simple Assault.
Court information says a Child Abuse charge and a second Domestic Abuse Simple Assault charge were dismissed as part of the deal, as was habitual offender information.
The judge sentenced Howe to 120 days in the Hughes County Jail, 118 of which were suspended. She was given credit for two days of time served. The judge also put Howe on probation for a year and she must follow conditions determined by the court.
Information from the Pierre Police Department regarding the Sept. 6, 2023, incident said officers were dispatched to the 700 block of E. Wells Avenue for a report of possible child abuse. The investigation found that a juvenile female had visible injuries from two separate assaults that occurred.
SEPTEMBER 2023:
A 30 year old woman from Pierre is charged with abuse of a minor child following an investigation into assaults that allegedly happened on Labor Day (Sept. 4, 2023) in Pierre.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says at approximately 11am yesterday, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of E. Wells Avenue for a report of possible child abuse. The investigation found that a juvenile female had visible injuries from two separate assaults that occurred on Monday.
Kelsey Howe of Pierre was arrested and taken to the Hughes County Jail. She’s charged with Simple Assault Domestic and Abuse or Cruelty to a Minor over 7 Years of Age.
