The National Weather Service is holding a storm spotter training in Fort Pierre this evening (March 21, 2024).
Hughes and Stanley County Emergency Management Director Troy Blevins says the class is being held at the Community Youth Involved Center.
There’s no obligation to become an official storm spotter for the two counties if you take this class, but Blevins says taking this course is a first step for people who may want to volunteer.
As far as severe weather awareness for the general public, Blevins says storm warning sirens don’t signify the start of a storm….
The storm spotter training comes a few weeks ahead of Severe Weather Preparedness Week in South Dakota (April 8-12. 2024).
The National Weather Service is holding a storm spotter training tonight in Fort Pierre is free and typically lasts a couple of hours.
