Pierre mayor Steve Harding will run for a fourth term in June 2026.
He made the official announcement during Tuesday night’s (Dec. 16, 2025) city commission meeting.
Harding said he considered a variety of things when making his decision.
Harding, a Pierre native, is the only person on the Pierre City Commission up for reelection in 2026. He was first elected mayor in 2017 after serving nine years as a city commissioner.
Pierre’s mayor is a part-time position. Day-to-day operations are coordinated by City Administrator Kristi Honeywell.
