An anonymous citizen and a Hughes County Deputy Sheriff made this year’s Christmas cheerier for a man who recently traveled through Pierre.
Sheriff Patrick Callahan said the citizen, who we’ll call “Doug,” found a wallet containing a significant amount of cash and immediately turned it in to the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office. That’s when Deputy Sheriff Gary Nickerson went to work, tracked down the owner of the wallet– a man we’ll call “Matt”–and let him know where his wallet was.
“Matt” returned to Pierre to claim his wallet— grateful that his ID, cash and everything else was all still safely inside.
Callahan said “Matt” left town with his holiday spirit restored thanks to “Doug” proving kindness and the spirit of the season are alive and well in Hughes County.
