Chief Deputy Dustin Drew has been appointed interim Hughes County Sheriff.
Drew was sworn in following approval by the Hughes County Commission during their meeting Wednesday (Feb. 4, 2026). He was sworn in by Sixth Circuit Judge Margo Northrup.
Last month, previous Sheriff Patrick Callahan said he wouldn’t be running for reelection, but had intended to finish out his term which goes through the end of the year. That changed when he turned in his resignation early, so commissioners approved Feb. 3, 2026, as the end date for his employment.
Drew’s salary was set $7500 per month. He will serve as interim Hughes County Sheriff until the results of the June 2 primary election are known.
