A water main break along Euclid Avenue in Pierre Friday (July 24, 2026) was fixed within a few hours, thanks to quick thinking by Pierre City Water Department employees.
Mayor Todd Johnson said at the time of the break between 3rd Street and 4th Street, city staff were working on a separate project on Elizabeth Street. As soon as they were notified, crews immediately shifted to the emergency, assessed the situation and completed a temporary repair within approximately three hours.
Johnson said the repair is temporary because the west side of Euclid Avenue is scheduled for reconstruction in the near future and the water main will be replaced while that work is being done. He said no businesses were impacted by the water main break or the repair work.
Johnson said he’s proud of the Water Department staff because their quick thinking, teamwork and dedication helped resolve the issue efficiently while minimizing impacts to the community.
