PIERRE – Emily Lingle and Aaron Campbell of Governor Track & Field were named the Pierre Athletic Coaches Association-Avera Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 23.
Lingle threw 35 feet, 10 inches in the shot put in the Legion Relays on April 22 at Hollister Field at Phil Trautner Stadium. This was Lingle’s personal best throw, better by nearly a foot from last season. Pierre Track & Field Head Coach Greg Starr said, “Emily is one of the hardest workers I have coached. She is also one of the most unselfish athletes I have ever been around. She gave up her varsity spot in the discus to another senior to give her the opportunity to compete in Rapid City. She is a multi-sport athlete and maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.”
Campbell again won in the javelin at the Legion Relays with a throw of 163 feet, five inches. That is second-best in South Dakota this season. Starr said, “Aaron came to the event with a ton of knowledge. This allows him not only to continue to improve his own technique but be an extra set of eyes at practice and help his teammates.”
