The boat ramp and trails to popular public hunting and fishing areas in Lyman County are getting a major overhaul.
The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks says work began yesterday (Sept. 28, 2022) on the boat ramp and the access trail on the west side of Fate Dam. A new boat ramp, parking lot, and gravel trail on the west side of the lake will be completed sometime within the next 4-8 weeks.
GFP Aquatic and Habitat Access Biologist, Kyle Potter says due to safety concerns the area has to be closed to the public. He says the contractor will be putting in new culverts, gravel and road improvements, and a full boat ramp replacement.
Potter says contractors will try to provide some type of parking off the county road for the hunters. But, he says, fishing access will be very limited except at the shoreline near the dam or walking in.
