VERMILLION – Wall left no doubt all season who was the best in 2022 9AA football, and finalized it in the title game.
Burk Blasius passed for two touchdowns on Friday as Wall won its first championship since 1994, 34-14 over Parkston in the SDHSAA 9AA Football Championship at the Dakota Dome.
Wall (12-0), led by former Stanley County assistant coach Lex Heathershaw, failed on their first offensive possesion, but still scored first when Quinn Moon blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown just over five minutes into the game.
Blair Blasius kicked the first of his two field goals, from 34 yards, later in the first quarter.
Parkston (10-2) came within three on a second-quarter touchdown run by Kaleb Weber, but Burk Blasius then threw his touchdown passes to Thane Simons and Rylan McDonnell, with the connection to McDonnell coming on the last play of the first half. Wall led 24-8 at halftime.
Kolter Kramer carried in for a touchdown for Parkston just over midway through the third quarter, but Blair Blasius’ 40-yard field goal for Wall extended the Eagles’ lead to 27-14. Brodi Sundall then clinched the championship with a three-yard touchdown run with 2:14 remaining.
Burk Blasius, named as the Joe Robbie Most Valuable Player, was 12-of-19 for 149 yards and two touchdowns, Cedar Amiotte rushed for 111 yards, caught four passes for 52 yards, and made 12 tackles on defense. Norman Livermont had two of Wall’s five sacks.
Weber was 10-of-13 for 146 yards and an interception for Parkston. Kramer rushed for 81 yards on 12 carries.
