BROOKINGS – A former Central South Dakota football star will try to become a pro next year.
South Dakota State junior tight end Tucker Kraft, a Timber Lake native, announced via social media Monday that he will enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
Kraft would have two more years of eligibility remaining after this season, but he has decided to enter the draft, and likely with very good reason. Kraft is projected to be a top 50 pick.
In 2021, Kraft was one of the best tight ends at any level of college football, catching 65 passes for 773 yards and six touchdowns, earning him spots on three FCS All-America first teams and the AP FCS All-America second team.
Kraft suffered a foot injury in this season’s opener September 3 at Iowa and didn’t play again until October 22. In the four games since his return, Kraft has 18 catches for 225 yards and two touchdowns.
SDSU is the top seed in the FCS playoffs and will host either St. Francis (PA) or Delaware on December 3 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
