PIERRE – Rules are in place for when SDHSAA-sanctioned softball begins this spring.
On Wednesday, the SDHSAA Board of Directors unanimously approved a 10-run rule after five innings and a 15-run rule after three innings. These will apply to regular season and postseason games.
Also, there were rules approved for when a game is suspended because of weather or darkness after five innings. SDHSAA Assistant Executive Director Jo Auch said that if a game is stopped before five innings, it must be finished later. Also, if a game is tied at the end of the regulation seven innings, each team will begin extra innings with a runner on second base, similar to what now happens in Major League Baseball regular season games.
