WATERTOWN – Hamlin and Wagner both scored impressive victories Friday to advance to the championship game of the SDHSAA Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament at Watertown Civic Arena.
Hamlin dropped Red Cloud to advance to the championship game for the third straight year. The Chargers have been the Class A runner-up each of the last two seasons and will try for the program’s first championship since 2005. Wagner defeated Sisseton to reach a title game for the first time since 1996, which was the Red Raiders’ last girls state championship.
Semifinals
Hamlin 57, Red Cloud 35
After trailing 8-2, Hamlin (24-0) went on a 30-9 run, then dominated the rest of the game. Kami Wadsworth led the Chargers with 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
Ashlan Blound led Red Cloud (21-3) with 14 points.
Wagner 63, Sisseton 45
Ashlyn Koupal, Macy Koupal and Emma Yost combined for 58 points for Wagner (24-1). Ashlyn Koupal led with 27 points. Macy Koupal scored 17 with nine rebounds. Yost dropped in 14 with 11 rebounds.
Chloe Langager scored 12 points for Sisseton (21-3).
Consolation
Flandreau 55, Lakota Tech 41
Claire Sheppard hit four three-pointers and scored 22 points for Flandreau (20-5). Melina Shangreaux scored 12 with six rebounds for Lakota Tech (19-6).
Sioux Falls Christian 52, Rapid City Christian 42
A 22-6 first half run turned the game in favor of Sioux Falls Christian (22-3). Ellie Lems scored 12 and Moriah Harrison had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Chargers.
Olivia Kieffer scored 20 for Rapid City Christian (19-6).
