HURON – They didn’t sneak up on anyone this time, but Viborg-Hurley is a repeat champion.
Coral Mason scored 28 points and 16 rebounds Saturday as Viborg-Hurley held off Wall 71-61 in the championship game of the SDHSAA Class B Girls State Basketball Tournament at Huron Arena.
The Cougars (23-3) broke a 27-27 tie with the last seven points of the first half, then led by as many as 15 points in the second half. Mason scored 18 of her points in the second half. Denae Mach scored 16 and Charley Nelson 14 for Viborg-Hurley, who won this year as the third seed after winning the 2022 championship as the eighth seed.
Wall (20-6), in the program’s first championship game, had 21 points from Paige Kjerstad, 13 points from Nora Dinger and 11 points from Alexis Stephan.
Viborg-Hurley is the first Class B girls repeat champion since Sully Buttes in 2016 and ‘17.

Arizona State commit Mallory Miller scored 22 points with 14 rebounds for the Warbirds (23-3).
Ava Lingemann scored 18 for Ethan (21-4) and Marissa Storm had 17.
