Dakota Valley senior Isaac Bruns was named Wednesday as the Gatorade South Dakota Boys Basketball Player of the Year.
Bruns, a 6’4”, 180-pound senior, goes into the Class A State Tournament, which starts Thursday, averaging 26.3 points per game along with 9.3 rebounds. He also has hit 43 percent of his three-pointers during his senior season.
Bruns has helped Dakota Valley to a class A-record 50-game winning streak. The Panthers, defending state champions, will open play in the state tournament Thursday at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls against Hot Springs.
Bruns, who has committed to play at the University of South Dakota starting next season, maintains a 4.0 GPA, is a National Honor Society member, a member of a church youth group in North Sioux City, a summer basketball camp volunteer and a volunteer with the VFW youth baseball program.
