PIERRE – Maybe Post 8 has turned a corner.
The Eights achieved their first winning streak of the season Thursday as they swept a doubleheader from Sioux Falls West at Hyde Stadium 7-5 and 11-2. Post 8 improved to 4-19 and has won three straight games.
Game 1 – Post 8 7, Sioux Falls West 5
A four-run fifth inning rally led Post 8 to the win. With Sioux Falls West up 4-3, a wild pitch scored the tying run. Ridge Leimbach then walked with the bases loaded to score the go-ahead run before Cooper Terwilliger drove in two runs with a single.
Terwilliger had earlier hit an RBI single to cap a three-run fourth inning, where Jonny Lyons hit a two-run homer.
Miles Doyle, in his first start since his no-hitter last Saturday, struck out eight in five and a third innings for the win. Jett Zabel, who earlier on Thursday announced his football commitment to North Dakota State, pitched the last inning and two-thirds for the save.
Game 2 – Post 8 11, Sioux Falls West 2
Zabel continued his big day in the second game with a triple, single and three RBI and was also the winning pitcher, giving up two unearned runs and six hits in five and two-thirds innings. Lyons had a two-run double. Terwilliger drove in two more runs, giving him 10 RBI in his last four games.
