Mass of Christian Burial for Grace Munyon, 92, of Isabel will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 7, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Isabel. Burial will be at Hillview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 6 PM with a Rosary service at 7 PM Thursday at the church. Grace passed away Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Grace Marion Witte was born on September 2, 1930, to Charles and Alma Witte at Coal Springs, South Dakota. She attended Tip Top School through 8th grade and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1948-1949. Grace was a “number please” telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Lemmon until the dial system came in 1950.
Grace married Robert Munyon on September 28, 1950, at Bartholomew Catholic Church in Glad Valley. They had six children: Roberta, James, Larry, Dale, Susan, and Nancy. They worked on the ranch and moved to Isabel in 1971. She worked at Helmar Candles and other jobs during the years including dishwasher at Isabel Café, wrapping meat at the locker plant, green thumb helper and respite care driver.
In 1990, for 10 years she went to craft fairs selling her wares of lawn ornaments and her jellies and candies. She was especially known for her chocolate covered cherries, people from all over the world have bought them.
Grace coordinated the blood drives from 1985 to 2010. She received a plaque from donating over 6 gallons herself!
Many of her hobbies were making beautiful handmade quilts for her family, church and Legion Auxillary raffles. She loved playing Phase 10, Rummikub, reading, fishing, and putting puzzles together.
Grace is survived by children; Roberta Munyon of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; James Munyon, Jacksonville, Florida; Larry (Lori) Munyon, Jacksonville, Florida; Dale (Sharon) Munyon, Belle Fourche, South Dakota; Susan (Dale) Locken, Gillette, Wyoming; Nancy (Jerome) Miller, Isabel, South Dakota; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister; Joyce Hill, Omaha, Nebraska.
Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Munyon, parents and 11 brother and sisters.
