U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development South Dakota State Director Nikki Gronli announced this week (April 3, 2024) that USDA is investing more than $1.4 million in grants to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy investments aimed to lower energy costs, generate new income and strengthen the resiliency of their operations.
“Since the start of the Biden-Harris Administration, USDA has invested more than $8.7 million in rural South Dakota through the Rural Energy for America Program,” said Gronli. “These energy efficiency improvements will help rural business owners and ag producers lower energy costs, generate new income, and strengthen their operations.”
The $1.4 million investment is through 8 grants in rural South Dakota including:
USDA is investing $120 million in 541 renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects in 44 states through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). A list of all eight awards can be found at https://www.rd.usda.gov/
USDA continues to accept applications and will hold funding competitions quarterly through Sept. 30, 2024. The funding includes a dedicated portion for underutilized renewable energy technologies.
