The Rawlins Municipal Library in Pierre now has a small, outdoor seating area thanks to a local book club.
Enid Hyde had been a member of the Second Monday Book Club for more than 40 years when she passed away in April at the age of 107.
Club member Nancy Van Camp says the group wanted to memorialize Hyde and pay homage to the ways she enriched lives in Pierre. So, members of the book club decided to purchase a table and bench and donate them to Rawlins Library. The items provide a small outdoor seating area on the east side of the Library.
Rawlins Library Director Robin Schrupp says the table and bench were placed next to a bench library staff donated in honor of former employee Pam Templeton, who passed away in 2019. She says when the weather cooperates, library staff and patrons can use the outdoor space for programs or leisurely reading.
