UNDATED-AP- Community members have expressed concerns about a proposed drone program for Minneapolis police. Nearly 50 people spoke at a City Council committee meeting on Wednesday (July 8, 2026). Residents filled the chambers and an overflow room, voicing fears about surveillance and privacy invasion. The pilot program is set for a council vote on July 16 and could begin as soon as July 20 if approved. It would allow drones to livestream crime scenes before officers arrive. Police officials say it aims to improve response times and safety. However, many residents distrust the program and its potential use. The drones would be provided by California-based Skydio.
