The safety of children riding electric bikes, scooters, and motorcycles, and helmet use, were discussed during Public Forum at Wednesday’s (September 9th) meeting of the Mobridge City Council. Mobridge Mayor Gene Cox said he has heard about these concerns. Cox said the City does have a proposed ordinance on the issue, but it is not yet an ordinance that is in effect.
Under New Business for the Water/Wastewater Department, a public hearing was held for additional Community Development Block Grant Program funding for the wastewater treatment plant rehab project. Ted Dickey with the Northeast Council of Local Governments asked the Council to approve the request.
A motion to approve was passed. Dickey said the time to complete the project will also be extended to December 31st, 2027.
For the Police Department, Council approved the hiring of two new dispatchers – Jesse Winterberg and Jon Meaders.
For the Finance Department, Council had the first reading of the 2027 Appropriations Ordinance. Mobridge City Finance Officer and City Administrator Heather Beck talked about the budget.
Council also approved a USDA Rural Development loan payoff for the water line to the Armory. Beck said it was in the 2026 budget.
