MITCHELL – The Mitchell Republic reports that Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball head coach Matt Wilber is taking a personal leave of absence. Athletic Director Jon Hart told the paper, “We do not have a specified timeline for his return at this time.”
Tyler Vaughan, recently named as Wilber’s assistant, takes over head coaching duties for the time being. DWU has not released the men’s basketball schedule on their website, but the website of the Corn Palace says that the Tigers will host Dakota State on October 28.
Wilber is 165-74 in seven seasons as DWU’s head coach and 88-74 in GPAC play. Last season, the Tigers qualified for the NAIA Division II national tournament for the sixth straight year, although the COVID-19 pandemic forced the tournament’s cancellation. In 2015, DWU was 32-5 and lost in the NAIA Division II national championship game.
