Funeral Service for Paul Bentz, 57, of Eureka will be 10:30 am Friday, February 26, 2021 at Eureka United Methodist Church. Pastor Ken Ballard will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Paul’s obituary.
Burial will be in Artas Cemetery, Artas, SD.
There will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm Thursday with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Paul died Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his farm near Eureka.
Paul Ray Bentz, son of Alfred and Anna Marie (Rutschke) Bentz was born October 13, 1963 at Eureka, SD. He grew up on the family homestead near Artas, SD and attended school at Artas Public School.
Paul met the love of his life at an auction sale. Paul was united in marriage to Jannel Parker in Karval, CO on October 4, 1986. They made their home in Eureka.
Paul was employed at Eureka Vet Clinic for over 20 years and worked for area farmers for many years. Paul and Jannel were Foster Parents for seven years. They purchased JP Lumber in late 2010. In 2016 Jannel moved into Bowdle Nursing Home after a medical accident. Paul then sold JP Lumber in 2017. Paul had various jobs after the sale of the lumber yard. He then began to ranch full time, owning his own cattle and various animals.
He had a true passion for ranching. He enjoyed cattle, days at the sales barn and going to auctions. Paul always helped neighboring ranchers with their cattle when needed.
Paul was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church and former member of Eureka Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jannel; sons, Travis (Hayley Leibel) Bentz of Selby, SD, Andrew (Alexis) Bentz of Eureka, Justin Bentz of Eureka; granddaughter, Nora Bentz; siblings, Ruth Ann (Larry) Kauk of Eureka, Mark (Kathy) Bentz of Artas; and mother-in-law, Joyce Dohn of Eureka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Luke Alfred Bentz (10-6-1996) and brother, John Bentz.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Paul’s nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Casketbearers will be Tony Goldade, Michael Bentz, Anthony Kauk, Tim Kauk, Randy Knoepfle, Marty Morlock, Hunter Heinrich and Greg Merkel.
