Funeral services for Richard Fiddler Sr., 82, of Ft. Yates will be at 10 AM, Friday, March 5, 2021 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Ft. Yates. Burial will be at 3 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be at 7 PM Thursday at the church. Richard passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at his home.
Richard C. Fiddler, Akičita Tokahe Mani, was born September 8, 1938 in Fort Yates, North Dakota to Charles Fiddler and Amy Silk. He grew up on Standing Rock and Cheyenne River. He finished school and joined the Army. When he completed the Army he returned home. This is where he met Cynthia Ducheneaux. They were married and started their family. They were blessed with six children; Jolene (Marshall), Donna, Richard Jr. (Quana), Royce, Carla, and Kerry (Michael).
Richard became a police officer and worked in Flandreau, SD and in Ft. Yates, ND. He became involved with the Albert Grass Post 173. He became the Legion Commander until the time of his passing. Richard was also an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for many years. He loved to go fishing, going for car rides, going to the Casino, and listening to music. Richard loved his family. Family meant everything to him.
He is survived by his children, eleven grandsons, seven granddaughters, and nineteen great – grandchildren, and sisters Patsey Mathony, Faye Lawyer, Imogene Bullhead, Jeanette Jordan, Geraldine Agard, Gail Brave Crow, Etta Brave Crow, Dale Brave Crow, and Mable Brave Crow.
Preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia, parents Amy and Charles, brothers Kenneth, John and Gerald “soup”, grandsons, Thomas, Matthew and Nicholas.
