Grave site Services for Cleone Iron Hawk 66 of Newtown, ND member of Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe will be at 11 AM, CT on Wednesday March 17, 2021 at Big Lake Cemtery in Cannon Ball, ND under direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Prayer & family service on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the CRST Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte, SD from 6 to 9 PM, MT, family and friends will gather at the 4 mile jct at 4 PM, MT to process to the Bingo Hall for services. Cleone entered Eternal Rest into the Lords Embrace on March 11, 2021 in Bismarck, ND. Oster Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements for Cleone Iron Hawk. Beloved Sister In Christ: Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, cousin and friend, Cleone also went by Barb.
Cleone was born and raised on Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation. She attending boarding school in Chamberlain SD. Growing up she looked forward to times going home to be with her family and playing with her siblings out in country.
She met her first love in Red Scaffold SD. He was a champion old style fancy dancer. They were betrothed, married in Oct 1972 and from this union had 3 children and 2 miscarriages.
While married, Cleone attended Sitting Bull College and earned two Associate degrees. She worked at as Secretary at Fort Yates Public School, Voc Rehab in Mobridge and United Tribes College. Eventually she moved to New Town ND near her daughter, for last 14 years.
Cleone was very talented and had many Interests. Cleone loved to bead, until her eyesight hindered her work. She played guitar, rhythm and bass, and loved to sing for the Lord. She also loved to cook, bake and share her food.
She was known as the frybread queen. She loved making Indian Tacos.
She also made and sewed pillows and quilts. Cleone lives to travel.
Places she visited are California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Washington, Minnesota and Canada.
Cleone Barbara was kindhearted, helpful, loved to fellowship, visit and always willing to give.
Cleone Barbara IronHawk is survived by one sister, Alvina IronHawk, her 3 children: Georgene Elk (Zarak) Scruggs, Raylene Elk, and Jerome Elk. She has 16 grandchildren: Christian Scruggs, Zarak Jr Scruggs, Charles Scruggs, Royce IronHawk, Jesou Ironhawk, Wyatt Elk, Raven Azure, Jennavieve Azure, Evelyn Marvel, Erica Elk, Chelsea Elk, Terrell Elk, Jerome Elk Jr, Nikolaus Elk, Nikya Elk and Lexxin Elk. And 2 great granddaughters, Amina Isabel and Zavianna Ivory.
Cleone is preceded in death by her parents Wilson IronHawk and Marjorie White Weasel IronHawk; brothers Haskell, Roe, Seborne, Otto and Wayne IronHawk; and great grandson Amias Isaiah James.
