Weather permitting, a portion of West Second Street in Pierre will close this week for construction work.
West Second, between Capitol Avenue and Edgewater Drive will close to through traffic today (April 13) to allow the city to replace an aging water main. Local traffic will maintain access. Through traffic is encouraged to detour around the area.
The closed section of West Second Street in Pierre is expected to reopen by Saturday (April 17).
The city maintains 80 miles of streets, more than 100 miles of water main, and more than 60 miles of sanitary sewer. Each year, city staff assess the streets, in addition to utilities, sidewalks and curbs to prioritize street maintenance and reconstruction projects.
