Quenton Joseph Heid was born January 17, 1934, near Herreid, SD to Anton and Katie (Wingerter) Heid. He grew up on the family farm with his brother Pius and six sisters Rita Diechert, Dolores Todoroff, Francella Butch, Anna Marie Suker, Carol Slaughter, and Kathleen Stevens.
When he was ten years old the Heid family moved to their new farm near Walker, SD. He attended country schools and graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1952. On December 27, 1955 he married the love of his life Vivian Olson at St. Bonaventure’s Church in McIntosh, SD. He worked as a lineman in Montana until 1956 when he decided to move home to farm.
He was drafted into the US Army in 1956 and was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany. After he was honorably discharged in 1958, he and Vivian moved to McIntosh, SD, and Quenton went into the petroleum business. In the early 1960s he started McIntosh Implement with Pius where they sold and repaired Allis Chalmers, Hesston, and David Brown farm equipment until 1978.
They welcomed three children into their lives, son Jamie, and two daughters Madonna and Maria. In 1973, the family moved to a farm northwest of McLaughlin, SD. His greatest hobby was farming/ranching. He loved it so much he turned it into his full time occupation. He continued to farm with Jamie until the time of his passing.
He was a dedicated member of the St. Bonaventure’s Church in McIntosh, St. Bernard Parish in McLaughlin and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. His love for God radiated in everything he did during his life. In his last years he could not sleep without his rosary in his hand.
Quenton was a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family.
Quenton will be dearly missed by his wife of 65 years, Vivian Heid, of Mobridge, children Jamie Heid (Lisa) of Selfridge, Madonna Mitzel of Bismarck, ND, and Maria Roesler (Terry) of Mina, SD. His grandchildren Katelynn Roesler (Justin) of Mobridge, SD, Brookelle (Jordan) Bartsch of Bismarck, ND, Kasey Roesler (Taige) of Mobridge, SD and Jaden Roesler of Mina, SD. Great grandchildren Bo Roesler, Braelyn Roesler, Deacon Bartsch, and Bristol Roesler. His siblings, Rita (Otto) Diechert, Francella (Thomas) Butch, Anna Marie (Robert) Suker, and Carol (Lonnie) Slaughter.
