An artist from Pierre is one of two being featured in an exhibit at The Journey Museum and Learning Center in Rapid City.
From October 25, 2019, through January 2020, the “From Field to Field” exhibit will feature the works of Pierre artist James Pollock and Sioux Falls artist Stephen Randall. Their “Plein Air” art in this exhibit focuses on the beauty found outdoors in the fields of the Great Plains.
Pollock says he will have over 70 pieces of art on display– one of the largest selections of his art ever exhibited in a museum setting. He says included in the exhibit, along with a large selection of plein air pieces, are illustrations, sketchbooks and intuitive pieces of art that are explorations beyond plein air.
Pollock and Randall will attend an opening celebration after 5pm Oct. 25. The evening will feature speeches and appetizers. If you miss the free grand opening, you can still view the exhibit through January 2020. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and free for members.
Then, on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2pm, Pollock and Randall will present “The Art of War,” which relates their personal experiences and give a historical overview of the army’s soldier art program. Both men were participants in the U.S. Army Vietnam Combat Artist Program during the Vietnam War.
