To date, no confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have surfaced in South Dakota, but state and private medical facilities continue to monitor the progress of it in the United States.
The Department of Health says says the state has about 1900 tests for the virus. Testing involves both an oral and a nasal swab, so the state can test about 900 people. Five people have been tested so far and all were negative.
Anyone who suspects they have been infected should contact their healthcare provider by phone before going to a hospital or clinic.
Avera is following established protocols and is implementing additional precautions to protect patients, employees and communities.
