A 24-year-old man from Pierre faces multiple charges after failing to register as a sex offender.
During the week of June 10 (2020), Pierre Police Officers and the United States Marshals Service conducted a joint sex offender location verification operation.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says during the operation, officers attempted to verify the physical residence of Hunter Canode. They learned Canode had failed to register his place of employment and the termination of that employment with local law enforcement as required under South Dakota statute. When Canode was located yesterday (June 16), he had recently consumed marijuana.
Canode was placed under arrest and transported to the Hughes County Jail. He’s charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, Commencement of Change in Enrollment, Ingest or Inhale a Substance to Become Intoxicated and
Possession of Marijuana 2oz or Less. Canode has served time in prison over the past few years for charges such as possession of child pornography and possession with intent to distribute more than a pound of marijuana.
The sex offender verification operation was conducted in accordance with South Dakota statute requiring an annual verification of the of the offender’s address as it appears on the state sex offender registry.
