PIERRE – Riggs High team athletic events have been postponed through at least Monday. There are at least five cases of COVID-19 among Pierre students and athletes have been identified as close contacts.
Postponed events include Thursday’s soccer matches at Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Friday’s football game at Tea Area and home volleyball matches that had been scheduled for Friday against Yankton (rescheduled for October 30) and Saturday against Douglas (rescheduled for October 31). Events cancelled are a boys golf meet at Mitchell scheduled for Friday and competitions for competitive cheer/dance that had been scheduled for Brookings on Saturday and Huron on Tuesday.
Riggs High School Homecoming activities, originally scheduled for next week, have been postponed until the week of October 12-16.
As reported by Dakota Radio Group News Director Jody Heemstra, Riggs High School will not have classes on Friday and there will be a special meeting of the Pierre School Board on Friday at 12:30 PM.
As of Thursday evening, Governor girls tennis was scheduled to play Saturday at Aberdeen against Central and Pierre cross country was scheduled to take part in the Clyde Cotton Invitational Saturday in Huron.
