Several South Dakota student-athletes signed letters of intent with in-state universities, as announced Wednesday on National Signing Day.
SDSU
Jackrabbit women’s basketball signed 5’11” guard Haleigh Timmer of St. Thomas More. Timmer played on both of More’s Class A state championship teams in 2017 and 2018. She averaged just under 23 points a game last year in her junior season and has been on the Class A All-State Team for the last two seasons.
Brielle Dixon of Brandon Valley was signed by SDSU track and field. Dixon was on the Lynx’ 4×100 and 4×200 AA state champion relay teams in 2019. Also, Dixon was fourth that year in the 100-meter hurdles.
USD
Coyote women’s soccer signed two South Dakotans, forward Kiah Peters of Harrisburg and midfielder Morgan Sullivan of Rapid City Central. Peters is the Tiger girls’ all-time leading goal scorer, with 23 in five seasons as a starter. Sullivan had 18 goals and 11 assists in four seasons with the Cobblers.
Augustana
Viking women’s basketball signed 5’8” guard Izzy Moore of O’Gorman. Last season as a junior, Moore averaged 12 points a game for the Knights, who were 21-0 and favorites to win the AA state tournament before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Joining Augie women’s soccer are O’Gorman defender Brooke Oberbroekling and midfielder Sierra Barkus, Sioux Falls Roosevelt midfielder Macie Haggerty and Rapid City Central defender Delaney Kost.
Viking track & cross country added Sioux Falls Lincoln hurdler Andrew Martens and Aberdeen Central distance runner Daniel Street.
Northern State
NSU volleyball signed middle hitter Abby Brooks of Madison. Brooks has 414 kills this year in her senior season and 755 in her career before the Bulldogs play next week in the Class A state tournament.
Wolves’ women’s basketball added 5’5” guard Halle Heinz of Ipswich. Heinz, who has started for four seasons, averaged 23 ½ points per game last season as a junior, along with five and a half rebounds, just under four steals and three rebounds.
USF
University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball landed 6’10” center Zane Alm of Mitchell. Alm was the AA leader in blocked shots last season, averaging 2.2 per game. He also averaged 9.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals.
Cougar women’s basketball signed former Harrisburg guard Brecli Honner, who averaged 11.1 points a game in her senior season, Garretson forward Lizzie Olson, who heads into her senior season as a 1,000-point scorer and Cassidy Siemonsma, a forward from West Central, who averaged 13 points and nine rebounds last season as a junior.
