SIOUX FALLS – The initial standard for South Dakota girls high school wrestling has been set by the Pierre Governors.
On Friday, Pierre won the first girls team championship at the SDHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center, outlasting Canton with 146 points to the C-Hawks’ 129. Cierra McFarling repeated as 285-pound state champion, registering pins in all three of her matches, including the title-match win over Kiara King of Canton 1:07 into the second period.
Akane Metcalfe (106 pounds) and Kianna Shevling-Major (142) won titles for Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes.
